Our commitment: gambling is entertainment, not income
Most people who gamble do so for enjoyment, and we want play with us to stay that way. Gambling is a leisure activity with a cost attached, in the same way a cinema ticket or a meal out has a cost. It is not a way to earn money, to cover household bills or to win back money you have already lost.
The simplest safeguard is a budget you decide on before you open a game. Choose an amount you can afford to lose and a length of time you are willing to spend. If your budget for the month is £50, treat that £50 as spent the moment you deposit it, and stop when it is gone. Increasing stakes to recover a loss is the most common way a planned hour becomes an expense nobody intended.
- Set a money limit and a time limit before you start, and write them down if that helps.
- Only deposit funds that are your own and that are not needed for rent, food, bills or debts.
- Never borrow money to gamble, and never gamble to clear a debt.
- Keep gambling as one of several things you do, rather than the main one.
- Avoid playing when you are upset, bored, under pressure or have been drinking.
- Take regular breaks, and check the clock rather than relying on how long a session feels.
We hold a gaming licence for the market we serve, and we verify the identity and age of every customer before play is allowed to continue. Our team also looks at patterns of play and may contact you, ask questions about affordability or restrict an account where we have concerns. If we do, it is because a safeguard has been triggered, not a judgement about you.
The safer gambling tools in your account and how to switch them on
Every tool below is free, applies to your account with us and can be set up in a couple of minutes. Reductions to a limit take effect straight away. Requests to raise or remove a limit are held for a cooling-off period and then need to be confirmed again, as shown in your account at the time.
| Tool | What it does | When the change applies |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Caps how much you can pay in over a day, a week or a month. | Lower limits apply immediately; increases after the cooling-off period shown. |
| Loss limit | Caps your net losses across the period you choose. | Lower limits apply immediately; increases after the cooling-off period shown. |
| Session limit | Closes your session once your chosen length of play is reached. | Immediately, from your next session. |
| Reality check | Shows an on-screen reminder at set intervals with your time played and net position. | Immediately. |
| Time-out | Locks your account for a short, fixed break. | Immediately, and cannot be lifted early. |
| Self-exclusion | Closes your account to play and to marketing for one of the longer periods listed. | Immediately, and cannot be lifted before the period ends. |
Limits on deposits, losses and session length
Limits are the tool we would suggest to everyone, including people with no concerns at all. A deposit limit controls what you pay in, a loss limit controls what the account can lose, and a session limit controls how long you sit at a game. You can hold all three at once, and you can keep them well below what you could in theory afford.
Reality checks
A reality check interrupts play at an interval you choose and tells you how long you have been playing and where you stand. It is a useful prompt if sessions tend to run longer than you planned, because time passes differently once a game is open.
Time-outs and self-exclusion
A time-out is a short break: your account is locked for the period you pick and reopens automatically at the end. Self-exclusion is the stronger step and is intended for anyone who believes their gambling is harmful. During a self-exclusion we will block access to play, remove you from marketing lists and refuse any request to reopen the account until the period has run its course. Any withdrawable balance is returned to you using a payment method in your name.
How to switch a tool on
- Sign in and open the account or cashier area.
- Go to the safer gambling settings.
- Pick the tool you want: deposit limit, loss limit, session limit, reality check, time-out or self-exclusion.
- Enter the amount or the length of time, then confirm.
- Check that the new setting is listed in your account. If anything looks wrong, or you cannot sign in, ask our live chat team or e-mail support@casino-misterx.co.uk and we will apply it for you.
Signs that gambling may be causing harm
Gambling harm builds gradually, and it is easier to spot in a list than in the moment. Go through the points below honestly and think about the past few months rather than today.
- You spend more money or more time than you planned, and your own limits keep moving upwards.
- You gamble to win back losses, or stake more after a losing run.
- You gamble with money meant for bills, rent, food or savings, or you borrow to fund play.
- You hide how much you gamble from family, friends or colleagues, or you lie about it.
- You feel restless, low or irritable when you are not gambling, or you cannot stop thinking about it.
- Gambling has affected your work, studies, sleep, health or relationships.
- You have tried to cut back or stop and found you could not.
- You gamble to escape stress, loneliness, grief or low mood.
If several of these apply, take a break now rather than later. Set a time-out or a self-exclusion in your account, and speak to one of the organisations below. Support is free, and you do not need a diagnosis or a referral to use it.
Where to get free, confidential help
These UK organisations support anyone affected by gambling, including family members and friends. None of them charge for their help, and all of them deal with these conversations every day.
- GambleAware. Funds free treatment and prevention work in Great Britain and publishes practical information for anyone worried about their own gambling or someone else's.
- GamCare. Provides free counselling, group support and advice across Great Britain, and operates the National Gambling Helpline.
- GamStop. A free self-exclusion scheme that blocks you from online gambling sites licensed in Great Britain for a period you choose; once you register, the block covers your account with us as well.
- The National Gambling Helpline. Free, confidential and open every day, by telephone or online chat, for players and for anyone affected by another person's gambling.
Your GP can also refer you to local services, and free debt advice is available from national charities if money has become a pressure. We cannot provide counselling ourselves, but we will act on any request to limit, pause or close your account, and our live chat team can do it while you are speaking to them.
Protecting children and others in your household
We verify the age and identity of every customer before play continues, and we may repeat those checks at any time, including before a withdrawal. Accounts cannot be shared, transferred or used on behalf of another person.
Most underage access happens through an adult's own device, so a few household habits make a real difference:
- Keep your username, password and payment details to yourself, and do not let anyone else play on your account.
- Sign out fully on any device a child or other adult can reach, and avoid saving passwords in a shared browser.
- Use separate user profiles and a screen lock on shared computers, tablets and phones.
- Install parental control or content filtering software, which can block gambling content and is offered by a number of providers as well as being built into most operating systems and home routers.
- Keep bank cards and e-wallet details out of reach, and look at statements for payments you did not make.
If you think someone under 18 has used your account, or that a self-excluded person has gained access to it, contact our live chat team or e-mail support@casino-misterx.co.uk straight away. We will suspend access while the matter is looked into and apply our terms on underage and third-party use.
